Back to Regular Posting
Author: adminIt has now been over two years of good intentions with no results. Amazing how time flies. That is, it’s been that long since I’ve posted to this blog. I really had enjoyed sharing my thoughts and experiences about the wild birds I encountered in my backyard and beyond. Actually, my enjoyment never diminished … but my time for posting did.
What changed? Well, its because my love of birds extends way past wild bird watching to sharing my life with pet birds for the past 25 years. That in turn, led to the development of a website called BirdCagePortal.com back in the early part of 2007. I started the website as a way to provide basic bird care information and offer pet bird supplies to pet bird owners. Its been a fun and interesting journey, but one I never expected to dominate my life as it has. This pet bird related business has truly taken over my life to the point I’ve been forced to set aside some of the things I love… like watching and feeding wild birds that come to my backyard. While I still can’t commit the amount of time I’d like to devote to this interest, I’m going to find at least a little to enjoy it. While this is desired from a purely selfish standpoint because I want to enjoy this wonderfully relaxing hobby again, I also have another goal. I believe it will help me re-focus needed attention to another project that has been ignored since BirdCagePortal was founded.
That project has everything to do with backyard bird feeding and is called Birdwatchin.com. This site was created around 2004 and it’s purpose was to share basic information about backyard bird feeding. About a year ago I re-designed the site and moved it to a new hosting venue in order to add quality wild bird feeding products. But due to the overload of commitments regarding BirdCagePortal I couldn’t follow through with that intention due to lack of time.
Be assured I’ve felt a good amount of frustration over the fact I dropped the ball regarding Birdwatchin.com. Now I’m raring to get back on track. While the site has always provided worthwhile information about backyard bird feeding, the wild bird supplies are currently still missing. It takes a huge amount of time to add products to any website and is pretty tedious work. While it means an even bigger time commitment I’ve decided to work on both projects at the same time instead of waiting to complete the BirdCagePortal project. If I’ve learned anything from having an ecommerce business it that it will never be finished. So if Birdwatchin.com is to have its chance to aid backyard bird feeding enthusiasts it needs the long overdue attention now. I’m not excited about the tedious work that will no doubt become my life. However, I do look forward enthusastically to getting Birdwatchin.com up to the same leverl as BirdCagePortal.com with the addition of tons of the fun and necessary supplies to enjoy backyard bird feeding.
So I guess my life won’t be returning to what I once considered normal for the foreseeable future. But that’s okay … I love filling my life with anything and everything related to birds whether they be of the pet variety or those that fly into my backyard.
To celebrate this decision I gave Rosebud, a Greenwing Macaw and one of my treasured feathered kids, a good soaking bath this afternoon. That may seem a strange way to celebrate, but the plan was hatched so we could both sit together on the deck in the warm California sun while she dried her feathers and could watch the Mockingbirds. They were darting in an out of a large hedge making me believe it was currently being used as a play house. They were just having too much fun to have it be anything else.
